Why Blepharoplasty?

Blepharoplasty or more commonly, eyelid surgery, is a surgical procedure to rejuvenate the appearance of the eyelids. Early forms of this procedure occurred early in the 20th Century to treat conditions such as ptosis (drooping eyelids) and imperfect vision.

It involves the removal or repositioning of excess skin, muscle, and/or fat around the eyes to address issues such as droopy eyelids, under-eye bags, and puffiness. It was the mid 20th Century when Blepharoplasty became more popular as a cosmetic procedure.

Blepharoplasty has become one of the most common cosmetic procedures. Now with minimally invasive laser technology and further advances in techniques, the procedure is more accessible and addresses more medical and cosmetic treatments around the eyes.

When to Consider Blepharoplasty:

  1. Droopy or Sagging Eyelids: Excess skin on the upper eyelids can make the eyes appear tired or hooded, potentially obstructing vision in severe cases.
  2. Under-Eye Bags or Puffiness: Fat deposits or fluid accumulation under the eyes can create a tired or aged appearance.
  3. Excess Skin and Wrinkles: Loose skin around the eyes can contribute to fine lines, wrinkles, and a generally older appearance.
  4. Impaired Vision: In some cases, excessively droopy eyelids (ptosis) can obstruct vision, and blepharoplasty may be performed for functional reasons to improve sight.

Why Blepharoplasty is Performed:

  1. Cosmetic Enhancement: Many individuals seek blepharoplasty for cosmetic reasons to achieve a more youthful and rejuvenated appearance around the eyes.
  2. Functional Improvement: When sagging eyelids impair vision, blepharoplasty can be performed to restore proper function by lifting and tightening the eyelids.
  3. Boost in Self-Confidence: Improving the appearance of the eyes can enhance self-esteem and confidence, especially if sagging eyelids or under-eye bags have been a source of insecurity.
  4. Combination Procedures: Blepharoplasty may be part of a comprehensive facial rejuvenation strategy, often combined with other procedures like a brow lift or facelift to achieve overall facial harmony.
