Rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that involves reshaping or resizing the nose.

Rhinoplasty, commonly known as a nose job, is an invasive surgical procedure that involves reshaping or resizing the nose to improve its aesthetic appearance or correct functional issues.

Rhinoplasty involves either making a cut across the skin between the nostrils (open rhinoplasty), or tiny cuts inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty). A closed rhinoplasty leaves no visible scars, but is not always possible or available.

Rhinoplasty can provide a range of aesthetic and functional benefits for individuals. It is a highly individualised procedure, and the specific benefits can vary based on the patient's goals and needs. Here are some common benefits associated with Rhinoplasty:

Improved Aesthetics: Enhanced Facial Harmony: Rhinoplasty can improve the overall balance and harmony of facial features by addressing the size, shape, and proportions of the nose.
Correction of Nasal Irregularities: The procedure can address various aesthetic concerns, such as a hump on the nasal bridge, a bulbous tip, asymmetry, or a crooked nose.
Enhanced Confidence and Self-Esteem: Many individuals seek Rhinoplasty to improve their self-esteem and confidence by addressing perceived flaws in the appearance of their nose.
Correction of Breathing Issues: Functional Improvement: Rhinoplasty can correct structural issues within the nose that contribute to breathing difficulties. This may involve straightening a deviated septum, reducing nasal turbinate size, or addressing other anatomical factors.
Treatment of Nasal Congestion: Reduction of Turbinates: In some cases, rhinoplasty may involve reducing the size of nasal turbinates to alleviate nasal congestion.
Better Sleep Quality: Improved Nasal Airflow: Addressing nasal obstruction can contribute to better breathing during sleep, potentially improving sleep quality for some individuals.

The cost of Rhinoplasty varies based on factors, including the surgeon's experience and reputation, the complexity of the individual's procedure requirements, the location of the clinic and any additional services or facilities provided.

Are you ready to compare clinics that provide Rhinoplasty cosmetic treatment?

There are various types of Rhinoplasty surgeries, each tailored to address specific aesthetic or functional concerns. The two primary categories are open Rhinoplasty and closed (or endonasal) Rhinoplasty, referring to the placement of incisions.

Schedule a consultation and discuss your goals, expectations, and any concerns you may have. Make sure to provide a thorough medical history. Undergo a comprehensive medical evaluation to assess your overall health and determine if you are a suitable candidate for surgery. This may include physical examinations, blood tests, and imaging studies.

Your surgeon will provide specific preoperative instructions, including guidelines for medications, dietary restrictions, and lifestyle adjustments. Follow these instructions carefully to optimize your readiness for surgery.

Inform your surgeon about all medications, supplements, and herbal remedies you are taking. Some medications, such as blood thinners, may need to be adjusted or temporarily discontinued before surgery.

If you smoke, it is strongly recommended to quit at least several weeks before surgery. Smoking can interfere with the healing process and increase the risk of complications.

Follow proper hygiene practices and take care of your skin. Avoid excessive sun exposure, and protect your skin from damage.

Rhinoplasty surgery involves:

Depending on the specific goals of the surgery, the surgeon makes incisions either inside the nostrils (closed rhinoplasty) or across the columella (the strip of skin between the nostrils) in an open rhinoplasty.
The surgeon reshapes the nasal bones and cartilage to achieve the desired changes. This may involve removing or adding tissue, altering the nasal bridge, refining the nasal tip, or correcting asymmetry.
Once the desired changes are made, the incisions are closed with sutures, and in the case of open rhinoplasty, external sutures may be used to close the columellar incision.

You'll have a dressing on your nose after the operation, and a splint held over your nose with tape for 7 days.

This surgery doesn't require you to stay in a hospital. After a couple of hours in recovery you will be released to go home to the care of a companion for the first 48h at least.

You'll be given painkillers to help control any pain or discomfort.

Recovery after Rhinoplasty involves several stages, and the timeline can vary among individuals. Regular follow-up appointments with the surgeon are scheduled to monitor the healing process, remove any external splints or packing, and address any concerns.

Factors such as the extent of the surgery, individual healing patterns, and adherence to postoperative care instructions influence recovery period.

The timing for returning to work and normal activities varies but is often within one to two weeks for office-based jobs. Strenuous exercise and heavy lifting are typically restricted for several weeks.

Here is a general overview of what to expect during the rhinoplasty recovery period:

Immediate Postoperative Period

Swelling and bruising around the eyes and nose are common and typically peak within the first few days. They gradually subside over several weeks. You may have difficulties breathing through your nose for about a week as it will be covered with an external splint, and you may have an internal splint or packing in the nostrils as well.

The First Few weeks

After about a week stitches can be removed (unless you had dissolvable stitches). The splint may also be able to come off. Sleeping with the head elevated can help reduce swelling and promote optimal healing. After 3 weeks bruises, swelling and redness may have faded. You may be able to swim.

Month Two - Month Six

At 4 to 6 weeks you should be able to resume strenuous exercise. It might be several months before you see the full effect of the operation, and up to 6 months for the swelling to completely go away.
